Lapland is a mysterious region in the far north of Scandinavia – Europe’s last frontier. It is the region inhabited by ancient nomadic tribes of reindeer herders, the Sami people. The ancient province extends across the borders of modern-day Finland, Norway and Sweden and takes in the sparsely populated, northernmost areas of those countries.
Lapland is perhaps best known as the magical home of Father Christmas. But the region is also home to huskies, reindeer and vast tracts of snow-covered plains ideal for snowmobiling. In winter, temperatures rarely rise above zero, often dropping anywhere between –7 and –30. At this time of year, the ground is usually decked with snow, and the sun never clears the horizon from about November to February.
We can arrange both Festive breaks to Lapland to visit Father Christmas, or scenic breaks in search of the beautiful Northern Lights. You will be able to combine the atmosphere of the Christmas season with some exhilarating wintry activities deep in the heart of True Lapland. Your break will include excursions when you set off beneath an Arctic night sky in the hope of encountering the fabled Northern Lights. We cannot guarantee that you'll see this spectacular natural phenomenon, of course, but you'll certainly have every chance of an unforgettable encounter. Why not also try a husky wilderness safari, plus learning the invigorating skills of cross-country skiing. Or spend a night in an iglu!
