In recent years the Turks and Caicos Islands have taken on an almost legendary reputation for powder white sands, aqua seas and luxurious resorts. The islands have a distinctly exclusive ambience.
The Turks and Caicos are a geographical extension of the Bahamas and comprise around 30 cays and islands, of which only eight are inhabited.
Better-known for their diving and marine life, the islands have much to offer the 21st century holidaymaker whether your interests run to ornithology, rambling, sailing, deep-sea fishing or admiring the purity of nature. Each of the islands has one or more national parks, sanctuaries or nature reserves, where the Turks and Caicos Government protects the environment and wildlife.
The islands boast 230 miles of white sandy beaches and eight main islands. The capital, Cockburn Town, is on Grand Turk. Grand Turk is only 10 kms long and a mere kilometre wide. In contrast, Providenciales which is the most developed island, is twice the size of Bermuda.
