The United Arab Emirates on the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula is a bit of an anathema in the Middle East. This union of seven sovereign sheikhdoms was formed when the British withdrew from the Gulf in 1971, and today it is a modern, trend-setting conglomeration of high-rise cities with state-of-the-art tourist infrastructure, magnificent beaches and a paradise of duty free shopping. Unlike other Arab states the UAE actually courts and encourages tourists, constantly adding and upgrading events and attractions to complement its renown as the shopping capital of the world.
Dubai:
Dubai is proudly international and openly hedonistic. Total contrasts can be found everywhere, from camels on dirt tracks just yards away from Lamborghinis and Ferraris on super-highways, to traditional robes mixing easily with Boss and Armani suits. Traditional themes combined with 22nd Century innovation. For your holiday to Dubai think Vegas mixed with Miami Beach, with added Arabian spice and extreme opulence. A Dubai holiday is a mix of fantastic shopping, beaches, sporting activities, restaurant choice and nightlife.
The resort area has an ever-changing sky and shoreline and it is unrecognisable from even a few years back, with many more high rise condominiums, offices and hotels, with more still to come. This is particularly evident in the Jumeirah resort area and the offshore Palm and World islands, so be prepared for production on a grand scale.
October to April is generally the most pleasant period, usually with bright sunny days and pleasantly cooler evenings. There can be changes to the accepted pattern and you could experience three to four days of cold weather and heavy showers in these months, but that is unusual. From May to October, regional temperatures and humidity rise, particularly in the mid-summer months.
Abu Dhabi:
Abu Dhabi rivals Dubai as the commercial powerhouse in the UAE, but the ambience is more reserved, in virtually everything. High rises are certainly prevalent, however the area is well planned and proudly Arabic and traditional. A holiday to Abu Dhabi offers excellent shopping and desert drives for the more adventurous.
Hotel development is currently limited to just a handful of areas. The Emirates Palace is regarded as one of the very best in the region and the new Desert Islands Resort offers a unique experience of sun, sand and safari.

Oman:
Arabic beauty surrounds you on your holiday to Oman, from swaying palm trees to traditional reed houses, from sparkling white sand to luxury hotels. Oman is a traditional country, plentiful in culture, diverse scenery and hospitable people. There is plenty to see and do, explore the rich history in one of the many World Heritage Sites or shop for Omani specialties in Muscat, the capital.
Tourism is well planned and slow paced. A must do on any Oman holiday is a desert drive along the sand dunes under the guidance of highly experienced drivers – an unforgettable experience. We also recommend a night or two in the desert, staying at one of the attractive inland resort camps. Here, you’ll have the chance to go camel riding or try your hand at falconry.
The weather is slightly cooler than Dubai, with temperatures in the period December to March around 22°c, and then beginning to rise to reach a mid-summer peak of 35°C. Rainfall is minimal, although the winter months can see short sharp showers and occasionally high winds coming in from the desert.
