There is so much to discover on a holiday to Venezuela – the beautiful beaches: the table top mountains or 'tepuis' and stunning waterfalls of the Gran Sabana, including of course the world's highest - Angel Falls.
Further north, travel by dugout canoe on the mighty Orinoco River with its fertile delta and lush flora. Stroll through the cobbled streets of Merida and then cross the breathtaking scenery of the Andes towards Barinas where you can discover by 4WD or on horse-back the abundant wildlife of the ‘Llanos’ (vast open plains).
Of course, when you have had enough of adventure on a Venezuela holiday, wildlife spotting and touring Andean scenery, you can relax on any number of palm fringed, white sand beaches all along its Caribbean Coast. Our favourite spot is the archipelago of Los Roques with simple posadas and great snorkelling or diving but there are lots of other places to go.
With such a large country, the climate varies greatly throughout. The Caribbean coast is generally dry with infrequent rain. South of the Orinoco in the Gran Sabana and Canaima and the Andes around Merida and the Llanos, the dry season is November to May. The best time to visit here is just after the rains when the falls are full and there is low humidity, also a good time for hiking and climbing Mt Roraima.
Canaima National Park
Canaima National Park in the Gran Sabana to the southeast of Venezuela, is home to the Angel Falls, with a height of nearly 1 km. The "Salto del Angel" is the world's highest waterfall, three times the size of the Eiffel Tower and was discovered by accident in 1930 when gold prospector Jimmy Angel crashed his plane.
The landscapes in the Canaima National Park inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's "Lost World".
Caracas
Caracas is a modern metropolis but the Plaza Bolivar and streets of La Pastor give a glimpse of its colonial past. This is the gateway from which to explore this diverse country. We offer a set price for accommodation on arrival in Caracas including transfer from the airport to your hotel and 2 nights accommodation. These nights need not be taken consecutively.
Los Llanos
Los Llanos is truly Venezuela’s “Wild West” and lies at the very heart of the country, covering about a third of its terrain. The best way to see this region is by staying at a ranch or "hato".
A trip to the vast plains of the Llanos offers incredible opportunities for wildlife spotting including capybara, caiman, river dolphins, anaconda and many species of birds.
From lively resorts on Isla Margarita to quiet retreats with few facilities on the edge of national parks, our experienced Latin America specialists can create a tailor-made itinerary for your Venezuela holiday or tour of the region.
Some of the boutique hotels we feature in Venezuela include hato el cedral,
waku lodge.
