There are five islands that make up the Dutch Caribbean and then there is Aruba, an independent state with close ties to the Netherlands. Bonaire and Curaçao, with Aruba make up the ‘ABC’s’. These three islands are in the south of the Caribbean just off the coast of Venezuala. They have a semi-arid climate and are cooled by the trade winds and a landscape of gently rolling hills, cacti and watapana trees.
If you are looking for atmosphere and distinctive local culture, then a holiday in the Dutch Caribbean could well be the Caribbean holiday for you. The Dutch influence gives the islands a unique ambience and character, reflected in the local music and richly painted colours of its buildings. Dutch colonial houses and shops can still be found in the older parts of the capital towns. The people speak four different languages including English.
Perhaps the biggest draw though is under the water. If a Caribbean diving holiday is what you’re looking for then ask our experienced Caribbean specialists about the Dutch Caribbean as a destination for you. The coral reefs and abundant fish life make these islands among the best in the world for divers. The Trade Winds also make it perfect for windsurfing, especially Bonaire and Aruba which have large areas of very shallow waters.
A British Virgin Islands holiday is the nearest you may well find to paradise on earth. Each island has its own distinctive character, although most are volcanic in origin with lush wooded mountain peaks descending to perfect white sand beaches. Renowned as the sailing capital of the Caribbean, both experienced and novice sailors can enjoy the calm seas and gentle breezes. Each island is within easy reach of another, so island hopping is a great way to explore on your British Virgin Islands holiday.
